Pair of mahogany and metal boxes
SOLD
This pair of decorative boxes was designed and crafted in the 1960s by Piero Fornasetti, in his lab in Milan. Fornasetti was the most influential decorator of his generation, often collaborating with peers such as Gio Ponti, creating iconic images and patterns that are now world-famous.
Although Fornasetti is active currently as a brand, and still reissuing some of their classic boxes, these two are part of the old craftmanship production and their decor are no longer produced, and therefore are true collectible items. They are made of painted metal with a mahogany inner structure. This precious type of wood gives warmth to their appereance and plays in contrast with the vivid color of the pictures. The larger box features the image of a chariot on cream background, the smaller box portraits a group of soldiers marching, painted in black on a bright red decor. The boxes are in good conditions, showing signs of age and slightly faded decor, especially on the red one, but this is consistent with their age and does not alter their apperance.
